Week 2A: Overview of Social Media
I don't know anybody that doesn't have a Facebook account. When Facebook was first launched, Mark Zuckerberg created it for college students to interact with each other. Now Facebook isn't just used by college students, but by celebrities, companies, and everyones grandparents. Now you can use other social media platforms for personal use like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. With each platform, you can like, heart, or retweet with billions of people across the world.
Every company usually has a social media account if not multiple. Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook are the most useful for business. By using Twitter, businesses can reply directly to their followers and give quick, short information updates. On Instagram, businesses are able to post pictures or short videos that represent their brand and use hashtags to reach new followers. Facebook allows businesses to create a page and update the page with posts, pictures, and videos. So many businesses have been able to use Twitter as another form of customer service because consumers will use Twitter as a way to reach out to a company.
I think that Twitter and Facebook are the best social media platforms for business and personal use because they have many features that usable for people and businesses. Both are easy to navigate and simple to use. People can use Facebook to find others that have the same interests and make personal connections. Businesses can use Facebook in the same way. A business can make a Twitter account and they have the chance to connect with billions of people with a single post. People can retweet that post and the business can reach new customers. Someone could also use Twitter to promote themselves and find people with like minds.
Facebook is becoming known as "BoomerBook," but I think that merely illustrates the ubiquity of the platform. Facebook has become as common as the telephone system.
ReplyDeleteI think that, compared to something like Twitter, it is not good for sending out news that is extremely timely -- e.g., "Train 565 will arrive 20 minutes late" -- because few people enable "push" notifications for a Facebook page. However, Facebook integrates photos and video, etc., better than Twitter.
I like your comparisons of the social media platforms. I agree that Twitter is useful for business replying directly as customer support is important and how they can promote using photos and videos on Instagram as well
